WHO Petra Curtis, left, and Lucy Ryder Richardson at Showhome.
THE STYLE Classic 20th-century Scandinavian designs mixed with old and new glass, textiles, jewellery and ceramics.
THE STORY Former fashion stylist Lucy and her ex-graphic designer friend Petra, both new mothers, recently decided to develop their interests in design and homeware. They collected interesting pieces, from a Hans Wegner chair to rainbow 60s glassware and a Michael Young stick light, and then opened the doors to Lucys 1970s London house. 'We felt there was a gap in the local market for a mix of mid-20th century antiques and contemporary design. And we wanted our customers to feel the thrill of discovering something they'd never find on the high street', says Lucy.
THE TWIST The clean lines and functional forms of Scandinavian design sit alongside items such as a 1960s Sheffield steel bowl.
THE SERVICE Lucy and Petra plan to hold a Showhome anually, giving them time to find special pieces. In between they provide a sourcing service via e-mail. They are also organising a contemporary design fair to be held in Dulwich, South London, in October.
