The brainchild of Lucy Ryder Richardson and Petra Curtis, Showhome is exactly as the name suggests: a suburban semi in Dulwich, south London, in which Lucy lives and where everything is for sale, from retro Scandi designer furniture by Arne Jacobsen, Bruce Mathsson and Hans Wegner, to lights by Brit design star Michael Young and cushions in 60s fabrics. As well as selling by appointment at the house, the duo now trade on the net and curates Midcentury Modern, a tri-annual fair at roving locations where Modernist furniture and work by today's design talents is set out and sold in realistic settings. 'Buying in situ is great because it allows people to see a piece without the clutter that might surround it in a shop,' Petra says. 'And, if they like a retro piece, we also have lots of other period items that might go with it.' Showhome, by appointment (; ourshowhome.com). The next Midcentury Modern is on 20 November, 11am-4pm, £4.50, at the De La Warr Pavilion, Marina, Bexhill on Sea, East Sussex (; www.dlwp.com).
